Royal Mail is the UK’s designated Universal Postal Service Provider, supporting customers, businesses and communities across the country. We are the only company that has the capability to deliver a ‘one-price-goes-anywhere’, six-days-a-week service on a range of letters and parcels to more than 29 million addresses across the UK. General Logistics Systems (GLS), our European parcels business, operates one of the largest ground-based, deferred parcel delivery networks in Europe.
In October 2013 Moya Greene, our renowned CEO, successfully floated Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange and we were subsequently admitted into the FTSE 100 and are now recognised as a Times Top 50 employer for women. We are undertaking one of the biggest industrial transformations in the UK in recent history. The UK, like many other countries, is experiencing an on-going decline in letter volumes. We are focused on leveraging an increasing number of parcels, which in turn is driven by the rise of e-retailing.
Achieving our strategic priorities, together with becoming a more customer-focused company, underpins our vision to be recognised as the best delivery company in the UK and across Europe.
Royal Mails’ Technology Organisation is led by our inspirational CIO, Catherine Doran, who was recently voted Computer Weekly’s second most influential woman in IT in the UK. Catherine joined the organisation in 2011 and has increased the organisation to 500 staff, of which 31% are now women.
Technology is responsible for devising and delivering the IT strategy that will underpin our business transformation and modernisation.
We have been working relentlessly on transforming our IT estate to keep pace with our strategic business needs and to bring back many elements under Royal Mail's direct control. We have streamlined our IT supplier portfolio and now have key IT partners in place to support our business for both today and the future.
